5.5 Preparing for Tribulation

Verses of encouragement:

Our encouragement in tribulation will come from two sources:

  • God’s Word
  • Other believers exhorting us to hold on to the end.

Our preparation will this consist of knowing and memorizing scripture, and use it to speak to our own hearts and to others. Secondly, to surround ourselves with other believers who are similarly committed to God’s words. Philosophies wont do it, preaching wont do it, knowing God’s word for ourselves is our only option. Gods spirit empowers his word to become life in us. John 6:63: It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart Hebrews 4:12

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. {8:29} For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. {8:30} Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. {8:31} What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? {8:32} He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? {8:33} Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
